Dwight grew up in Vancouver where he graduated and proceeded to earn his journeyman welding designation. He then met and married his first wife, Sheryll Gallis. Dwight and Sheryll had two children, Justin and Deanna. They moved to Fort St. John to pursue his welding career. His second marriage, to Dianna Campbell, took place in Calgary, Alberta where Dwight had his second son Craig. Dwight reeducated himself and enjoyed a career as a successful mechanical engineering specialist for Colt Engineering which later became Worley Parsons. Through his work and motorcycling, he traveled extensively. Besides riding his motorcycle across the continent, he enjoyed music, ballroom dancing and working in his shop with his sons
